I have listed in the table below the species featured on this page. To jump to pictures of a particular species, click on the name. This page is a sort of running rogues gallery of fish pictures from Iraq. I have tried to group them by species when I can. Enjoy! Fresh fish - the most recent pictures right off the water. Asp are biting around the Victory Base Complex First fish - shots of folks with their first fish in Iraq, or on a fly rod, or for some ever!!! Here are some of my arm's length photos of asp:: Mangar or Bisz (Barbus esocinus) Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) Stinging Catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis) Wels Catfish (Silurus glanis) Barbs (I haven't a clue) Copyright © 2006 by Joel Stewart. The lakes on Camp Slayer were always a favorite of mine - looks like they are still top producers.
This asp fell to a Wooly Bugger and this Al Faw asp fell to a topwater bait.
Another asp that couldn't resist a topwater bait.
Chris caught this carp and asp on Camp Slayer - the asp was caught in a sand storm!

Jim caught these HUGE mangar over at Lost Lake - they are some great fish!
Jim also caught this big asp and nice shaboot in Lost Lake

Fishing around the Al Faw Palace paid off with these nice asp for CW04 Scott H.!

This is another European import. It has the potential to grow to over 6ft, so mangar may have some completion.
