6Hi all, here’s the latest update,
It’s been hot as the devil here for the last couple weeks. The guys out at the front gate put a thermometer up under their guard shack. It regularly hit’s 110 by mid morning and into the 20’s by 3 or 4 p.m. So, yes…the fishing has been off. I haven’t talked to the Lost Lake crowd lately. The last I heard of them, SSG Gillespie was really hanging some nice ones in a little inlet. The way it works is, as the water gets really hot, any moving water will draw fish. It could be from the influx of cooler water with it’s higher oxygen content. Regardless, this place draws fish.
Class is going well. We did try it up on the balcony and it works great! It’s not “cool” up there. But, it is out of the direct sunlight and that makes it a plus. We have a ringer in the class this round. Lieutenant Colonel Stamamir Gabarov from Bulgaria is a natural caster. Last week was only the second time Stam had held a fly rod. He was doing so well, we decided to up the ante a bit. I put a garbage can out about 30 feet away and give him a target to shoot at. Cast after cast…he was nailing it!
Next week we are back out on the water but I’ll be out of the net for that time. I’m heading home for a couple weeks and see if I can’t coax some of the native trout to make some bad decisions. My daughters have told me they have all my tackle ready to go so I won’t waste any time getting on the water. Funny, but whenever my girls get my tackle ready I always seem to come up short. Last time I found my missing 4-piece 5wt. behind the seat of my eldest's truck. They are shameless about it. I got some pictures of them in the backyard pool a couple weeks ago. Looking in the background of the shots, what do you think I saw in the pool? Beach balls?...nope; blow-up alligators?...no…it’s Dad’s float tubes! Seems the front mesh net holds a lot of water balloons. I have to admit, that use never would have occurred to me.
I’ll send you some trout shots in about a month. Until next time…Tight Lines!
